Would you take a boat up a creek without a paddle? Unfortunately, this may be your path if you are not prepared to deal with a power outage at some point. Weather in Cypress can be severe, and with unusual patterns in the sky over the past few years, it is only safe to be prepared just in case.

A power outage lasting for a few days, or weeks can cause all kinds of undesirable outcomes. There are many aspects of living at Greystar Cypress Village that we rely on, but without electricity, we cannot have them. Things such as light at night, cold food storage, and computers are compromised when there is no electricity to power them. The American Red Cross suggests this Emergency Preparedness Kit:

• Water- one gallon per person, per day (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for
home)

• Food- non-perishable, easy-toprepare items (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)

• Flashlight- (NOTE: Do not use candles during a power outage due to the extreme risk of fire.)

•Battery-powered or hand-crank radio- (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible)

• Extra batteries

• First aid kit

• Medications (7-day supply) and medical items

• Multi-purpose tool

• Sanitation and personal hygiene items

• Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, deed/lease to home, birth certificates, insurance policies)

• Cell phone with chargers

• Family and emergency contact information

• Extra cash
